 Breakfast Club

          Initiative

                      Times        Registration        Supervision        Food        Allergies

The Welsh Assembly Government is funding the scheme and therefore the breakfasts will be free to all pupils.

As you will appreciate, for the efficient and safe implementation of the scheme, the Welsh Assembly has stipulated operational procedures and produced guidelines that the school will strictly adhere to.

Times

·        Breakfast will be served between 8.10 and 8.25 a.m. in the school hall.

 ·        No admittance to the breakfast club before or after these times.

Registration

 ·      Parents must register their children each day on the breakfast record form which the school must submit to the LEA on a weekly basis.

·        Parents cannot just drop off their children at the school.

·        Parents should inform the school a week in advance if they want their child to receive a breakfast. Although there will be some flexibility with numbers any child arriving to have a breakfast without giving prior notice cannot be guaranteed a breakfast.

Supervision

 ·        Ratios of supervisors to pupils are set out by the Welsh Assembly guidance. To ensure that there are sufficient staff the school must know in advance expected numbers. Therefore parents must inform the school as stated in the registration information above.

·        Once children have registered on arrival they must remain in the breakfast session.

·        Pupils who have finished their breakfast will have supervised activities provided in the school e.g. jigsaws, board games, drawing, t.v. etc. or pupils may be supervised in the yard.

Free breakfast is not a right. Schools can refuse entry to any children on the grounds of unacceptable behaviour.

Food

 ·        Breakfast will consist of the following four food groups; milk based drinks or products; cereals – not sugar coated; fruit; breads. A typical breakfast could be cereal with milk, a piece of toast and fruit juice. For variety, other food items such as smoothies, yoghurts, muffins, crumpets, hot cross buns, tea cakes may be introduced on occasions. Drinking water will also be available at the breakfast sessions

Allergies and Special Dietary Requirements

It is important that parents provide information on allergies/special dietary requirements that their child may have.
