The History of Our School
This school was opened on Monday 19th April 1880 as a Board School. However, there was a previous school in the village located opposite the present Post Office that was probably a church school.
Annie Elizabeth Williams (2nd Class Certificated) commenced duties as the first Mistress of Llangyfelach Board School.
Twenty three children were admitted on the first day and seven on the second day. A total of sixty three children were admitted in the first month.
Children were charged for attending school at the rate of 9d (about 4p) a week. Average wages at the time were about £3 a week.
The school building has been altered over the years and was extended in 1992 and again in 2005.
